2020 Woodlands Swim Team Update
Parents -
Thank you for your patience during these unprecedented times we are in. I wanted to give you an update on the swim season. Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel the 2020 Summer Swim season. There are too many obstacles and restrictions working against us for this to be the program that we are all accustom to. I can promise you we did NOT take this decision lightly. We have looked into other ways to make something happen for all the families who love swim team as much as we do. But at the end of the day, the safety of the kids is our number one concern.
Here are some of the restrictions that we know would have to take place even in the best case scenarios:
- Starting the season at the end of June and running through August 1st
- Swim Meets would be done virtually (meaning we swim at our pool, they swim at their pool and we exchange times)
- Swimmers would maintain social distancing during practice. Only 4 per lane (staging kids in certain sections of the lanes) (Meaning only 28 kids per practice)
- Limit the number of swimmers on the team
- No 6 and unders because coaches cannot be in the water with them to assist
- Any swimmer who can’t swim across the pool can’t participate
- No parents on pool deck at any time
- All swimmers who enter pool will be subject to temperature checks and questions on overall health
- Any swimmers with health conditions that put them at risk can’t participate. (Such as asthma, etc.)
- Swimmers not allowed on the pool deck until practice times and will be asked to leave immediately
- No concessions
On top of all the restrictions above, we also have to worry about insurance and liability concerns. With all the above taken into consideration, we just feel that in the best interest of all those involved we cancel the season.
All the reasons we all love summer swim league have been restricted due to the current situation we are all living in. We do not want to provide a program that can not deliver quality swim instruction, enjoyment for the kids and families who participate and most importantly the safety of all those involved.
We hope that you all understand our decision. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Thanks so much! We look forward to seeing you all next year for the 2021 swim season!
